Dr. V. Bhujanga Rao, Director General (Naval Systems and Materials), DRDO, witnessed the launch of a new torpedo recovery vessel by his wife, Lalitha Bhujanga Rao, at Shoft Shipyard, Bharuch, Gujarat, for NSTL.

IRSS devices for evading IR seeker missile
Dr. Rao works on Infrared Signature Suppression (IRSS) devices that protect aircraft and naval platforms from infrared seeker-based missiles. Using cooling, exhaust mixing, shielding, and advanced materials, these systems reduce detectable heat emissions. By lowering thermal visibility, IRSS technologies greatly enhance survivability in hostile environments and serve as an essential part of modern defensive countermeasure suites.
India has good scope for using maritime capabilities
India has a large scope for innovation in science and technology to address the futuristic challenges in maritime industry while providing much-needed maritime defence capabilities, V. Bhujanga Rao, ISRO Chair Professor, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru, and former Director-General, Naval Systems and Minerals, said on Friday.

Indigenous torpedoes for Navy
Navy has placed an order with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for 25 anti-submarine torpedoes developed by National Science Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam.
Only seven other countries in the world have the technology to make these torpedoes, Dr V. Bhujanga Rao, Director, NSTL, told reporters
Concern over dwindling interest in science research
Quality of life has improved thanks to science and society and government must support progress of science, Director General, Naval Systems and Materials, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence V Bhujanga Rao said.
